Nonfiction Monday

Nonfiction Monday is hosted today by NC Teacher Stuff.

For Nonfiction Monday  --  "Exploring the International Space Station" by Laura Hamilton Waxman.

Waxman provides readers with a look at the development and construction of the ISS and its international crew of astronauts, daily life, science experiments and the future plans for this orbiting home/laboratory.  A glossary, About the ISS and Index conclude the book. Photographs and artist renderings accompany a simple informative text that is not overwhelmed with technical jargon making this an interesting introduction to the subject for students in grades 3-6.

 

Poetry Friday

Poetry Friday is hosted today by Teacher Dance.

My selection is Guess again!: riddle poems by Lillian Morrison with illustrations by Christy Hale

 

There are have been many requests from students this week for riddle books which reminded me how much children enjoy word-play.  Here is a collection of 20+ rhyming riddles to challenge young readers to solve the puzzles.  Each poem describes an object and the accompanying illustration offers a visual clue to the answer.  Children who need some extra help can turn the page and see a more prominent clue and the answer.
